A08 Authorization Approval Expired

[Authorization]

Details

American Express reason code A08 is used when a transaction is processed after the original authorization approval has expired. Authorization approvals are only valid for a limited period, and if the charge is not completed within that timeframe, Amex considers the approval invalid.

This situation can occur when merchants delay settlement, split charges, or experience technical issues that prevent timely processing. Even if the cardholder agreed to the transaction, the merchant may still be liable if the approval window has closed.
