12.6.2 Paid by Other Means

[Processing Errors]

Details

Visa reason code 12.6.2 is used when a cardholder claims they were charged on their Visa card even though they paid using a different method—such as cash, check, another card, or store credit. This type of dispute usually arises from confusion at the point of sale, manual processing errors, or a miscommunication about the payment method used.

It’s possible the cardholder attempted to pay with another method but the transaction didn’t go through, or the Visa card was charged by default. Merchants who can show that no alternate payment was received—and that the Visa transaction was valid—may be able to successfully challenge the chargeback.
